How to think thoughtfully

So many of us go about our lives not giving much thought about our thoughts. What are the conversations in your head like? What kind of thoughts do you have about yourself? I personally went the majority of my life not giving much thought about how my thinking (or lack thereof) was affecting my quality of life. Believe it or not (like it or not) our thoughts ARE our reality. The way we think does have an impact. I would argue it has the greatest impact on what kind of life we live. Thoughts are still second in my opinion to behavior. However, you likely won't be taking empowered actions if your thoughts are negative.

Still, you can be positive but if you don't do anything with those thoughts you are going nowhere, fast. If you underestimate your thoughts or let them run wild you are not running your life. The voices in your head are running the show and they likely are not logical. Let's do an audit of your thoughts, break them down and get you in a place of positivity and empowerment. You are the only person that can do that and I am here to help with 5 ways to get your thoughts on your team.

1.) Be aware. Start listening to your thoughts. What does your self talk sound like? How do you speak to yourself and others? We often project our own insecurities and feeling of self doubt on to others. Take a look at that and see where you could improve. If you have nothing nice to say, say nothing! That goes with yourself and others. If you want to live a happy, healthy life there just is no place for negativity or trolling. Be honest with yourself about how you think.

There is no shame in negativity or anxiety. We all have negative thoughts and go through difficult times. I myself have been to the bottom, and nothing you could tell me would surprise me. The shame is when someone doesn't believe they can turn things around or change. Change is always possible with intentional action and persistence. Miracles will happen for you if you believe they are possible. Open your eyes and become aware of where you are. When you know where you are starting from you are in a position to change it.

2.) Reframe your thoughts. Change the thoughts you have from " I can't" to "I will learn how" or from " I am overweight" to "I am changing my habits to reach my weight loss goals." You get the idea, right? Being negative and having negative or false beliefs is never going to benefit you. Trust me, I am not judging because I have been there. I just am not going to sugar coat it- you have the power to stop it. Choose to actively work on your thoughts. Be the active participant in your own life. Stop letting the mean girl or guy in your head run your day. They have no power unless you let them.

3.) Learn! In this age of technology there are so many opportunities to learn and grow as a human being. We are not meant to stay the same and there just really is no excuse anymore not to develop as a person. You can and should push yourself beyond what you are currently doing. You have an entire life to live so why settle for anything less than what you deserve? You are able to learn when you are willing to admit that you don't know everything. Learning opens up doors you never even knew existed. It actually does not matter what you are learning or interested in as long as you are passionate about something.

4.) Self Develop (GROW!) We all have room to grow. One of my favorite quotes by William S. Burroughs is "when you stop growing you start dying." When I look back on times in my life when I was struggling, this was always the case. How do you know when plants are thriving? You know because they are growing. Without growth life becomes mundane and purposeless. Humans are meant to reach for something greater than themselves. I don't care who you are or what your goals are. It doesn't matter the specifics but I just care that you are stretching yourself in some way. I want that for you, because it is the spice of life.

5.) CREATE! This may seem like an odd suggestion for someone looking to change their way of thinking. Bare with me because this one is important. You don't have to be an artist to create. It could be you creating delicious meals for your family or building tree houses for your sister's children. You could be a writer, painter or content creator, it doesn't really matter what it is. It just matters that you DO something. Humans need an outlet to express through. You could even write in a journal, which I am a huge fan of because it lacks the anxiety that creating for others can bring. It is so very important that you are able express yourself in some way.

I hope these ideas will inspire you to take a different direction. If you are already doing these things, that is awesome. You as an individual are unique and have something special to offer the world. You owe it to yourself and to others to speak your truth, write your story and paint your own canvas. However you choose to do that is irrelevant if you ask me. What is relevant is that you do something. Leave your mark on this world. Your life is important and you DO have something to say. We all do! Give up the fear of judgment or rejection. Nobody has to get it, but you will. Give your thoughts a second thought and manifest the life of your dreams. In doing so, I am sure you will inspire others to do the same.
